About Us
The Pomona Student Union is committed to raising the level of honest and open dialogue on campus. By helping students become more knowledgeable and better informed on the social and political issues that confront our society, we create informed citizens to better serve us all.
A student-run organization supported by faculty and the administration, the Pomona Student Union is dedicated to fostering a culture of active citizenship, intentional community, and empathetic dialogue on Pomona’s campus. We empower Sagehens to challenge conventional assumptions and to take positive action on some of the most urgent and complex issues facing our communities and the world at large.
Underpinning the goals and aims of the Pomona Student Union is the tenet that being willing to listen to and share in diverse perspectives is necessary to develop a more informed understanding of global issues. To increase informed decision-making in Claremont and beyond, the Pomona Student Union seeks to foster an environment in which students are exposed to a diverse views, some of which may challenge their own, while respecting their right to feel safe on campus.
Historically, the Pomona Student Union has invited prominent speakers from across the country to discuss their areas of expertise. In addition to bringing in speakers, the organization has sponsored student and faculty debates and panels. In recent years, the Pomona Student Union is committed to creating spaces where students and staff feel comfortable with being vulnerable in conversation, a critical first step for engaging in open dialogue about controversial subjects.
